About The Computer Centre:

The Computer Centre, University of North Bengal, the leading Central Facility of this University, established in April, 1983 (UGC Reference F.55-5/83(T-II) dated 16th April 1983), is providing different services to the Teachers, Research Scholars, Students and the Administration of the University of North Bengal relating to 1) teaching, training& research2) Local Area Network (LAN) and 3) various computing facilities.

Although it had a separate identity, it was functioning under the same Head of the Department Of Computer Science and Application, University of North Bengal. Since 28th May, 2001 it has been functioning under the independent Head from the Computer Centre, NBU.

ICT Facility of the Centre:

  1. Introduction of 1 Gbps leased line (1:1) under NMEICT project of MHRD: Under the project, the Computer Centre is provided with 1 Gbps leased line (1:1) from BSNL for its main Campus at Raja Rammohumpur, Siliguri-13, w.e.f  2011-12
  2. Catering of multiple ISP for crisis management and better bandwidth: The Centre also using 300 mbps leased line from an alternate ISP (presently it is from Reliance Communication) to manage the cases arising out of non-availability of the BSNL connectivity as well as for better fulfilment of user’s demand for bandwidth.
  3. Internet facility under LAN: The whole Campus encompassing all the academic &administrative buildings and the hostels are provided with 24X7 internet facility at several static points with fiber optic back bone network mounted at the Server Room of the Computer Centre.
  4. Campus Wi-Fi facility:  All the Research Scholars (Men and women) and PG hostels (Boys and Girls), are also covered under the Campus Wi-Fi facility. Apart from that, on experimental basis, some Wi-Fi hotspots at some prime sites like University Guest House, Guest House for Human Resource Development Centre & P.G. Student Canteen are being offered by Reliance Jio.
  5. Website up gradation of  for the University of North Bengal (http://www.nbu.ac.in): With deep involvement of the Centre and with full cooperation of some noted in-house experts, the University had upgraded and replaced its own old website with  the new one as in its present form  with a dynamic and updated features.
  6. HPC (High Performence Computing)- A new horizon for high speed computational facility: With the entire support from the RUSA fund, this Computer Centre of the University, had managed to host its state of art IBM cluster computing facility. The academic cross section with demand for high speed computing facility is benefitted   immensely.
