The Department

The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1963 and has been gradually developed since then by imparting higher education in Chemistry through its ongoing M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs. The academic curricula and research programs have been designed and regularly updated with the primary focus to basics and emerging fields of chemistry. Every year considerable numbers of students are qualifying in the UGC-CSIR-NET examination. Research areas in the department mainly focus on organic synthesis, coordination chemistry, catalysis, green chemistry, natural product chemistry, bio-inorganic chemistry, solution and theoretical chemistry. The department regularly organizes national and international seminars, symposia and lectures in order to give a focus on the emerging fields of research to our students and research scholars. Several distinguished scientists including Bharat Ratna Professor C.N.R. Rao have visited the department and delivered lectures in the department in the recent past. The department has been recognized for UGC-SAP at DRS Level-III and DST-FIST (second) grants besides several individual project grants from major Indian funding agencies like DST, CSIR, UGC, NEC and others. Our faculty members visited several countries as visiting Professors, UGC Raman Fellowship and others. The department is equipped with various instrumental facilities like FT-NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis, HPLC, GC, GPC, DLS, Density meter etc. Faculty members regularly publish their research findings in reputed national and international journals of high repute and impact factor.
