Remedial Coaching for UGC and CSIR NET/SET @ UNB

Coaching Scheme for National Eligibility Test (NET) for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe students has been introduced by the North Bengal University during the financial year 2005-2006 on the basis of approval of the UGC for the University proposal to start the scheme under the 10th plan guideline for special schemes in the Universities for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe students. The Executive Council of North Bengal University, after the UGC approval decided to proceed with the programme of coaching scheme in March, 2005, with a view to enhancing the capability of schedule caste and schedule tribe students who constitute almost one-third of the total students strength of the University. Consequently, the Co-ordinator of the programme was appointed; an advisory Committee was constituted as per the UGC guideline. The coaching scheme also has continued with its programme in 2013-2014 Batch – I (session: April to June 2013) including fourteen more Department i.e. Bengali, English, History, Commerce, Political Science, Philosophy, Nepali, Hindi, Geography, Computer Science, Anthropology, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology overall students 196.  In 2013-2014 Batch – II (session: August 2013 to December 2013) including sixteen more Department i.e. Bengali, History, English, Economics, Philosophy,  Anthropology, Geography & Applied Geography, Rural Development (DELL), Hindi, Nepali, Sanskrit, Political Science, Computer Science, MBA,  Zoology, Mathematics  overall students 191.

FACULTY POSITION:

In accordance with the UGC guidelines the schemes does not have any permanent faculty members, nor any permanent staff. The staff pattern Comprises one Co-ordinator (part-time), one part-time Office Assistant and one part-time Office peon. However, teachers belonging to various departments are involved in imparting instructions and training under the coaching scheme. INFRASTRUCTURAL FACILITIES:
The coaching scheme at present has the following facilities/equipments sanctioned by the UGC and/or provided by the University:

  1. Two Photo-copiers
  2. Two Computers with internet facility
  3. One laser printer
  4. One public-address system with amplifier
  5. One LCD Projector with Screen
  6. One Laptop
  7. One inverter

In addition, the Coaching Scheme also is in possession of a small library to cater the needs of the students. The library contains books on general knowledge/studies well as on specialized areas. Presently, coaching classes are held in their respective Departments and classes for (General Paper – I) are held in Room No. 109 & 112 in Humanities Building.
