The University Library was established along-with the establishment of the University in 1962 in order to meet the academic and research needs of the Students, Research Scholars and the Teachers. The University Library provides books, journals as well as current information on various topics to fulfill the need of the various components of the university community viz. teachers, research scholars, students, officers and staff towards the fulfillment of their objectives. The University Library is the only library in North Bengal region, which facilitates research and higher learning by providing books, journals and other documents to the teachers, research scholars and students. In order to ensure quality and effective education in the Rajarammohunpur and Jalpaiguri Campus, University of North Bengal had been established 33 nos Smart Classroom under RUSA scheme in many academic departments. Implentation smart classrooms make the teaching and learning process more effective, as teachers are getting more time to interact with the students.

University of North Bengal has set up virtual classroom in 25 departments to enhance online learning environment which allows for live interaction between the faculty and the students as they are participating in learning activities. In other words, the virtual classroom is a shared online space where the students and the teacher work together simultaneously.

CIRM provides 1 Gbps leased line (1:1) from BSNL for its main Campus at Raja Rammohumpur under NMEICT project of MHRD. NBU has another 300 Mbps of Internet bandwidth coming from Vodafone ISPs and integrated at our end to give seamless access from both the ISPs. NBU has a hardware firewall (SOPHOSE) that both protects the NBU network from outside hackers, and in addition can balance the load and also works for filtering unnecessary traffic, streamlining traffic by specifying priorities, and blocking unwanted sites.

The University has three guest houses located on its green campus of the NBU main campus at Rajrammohunpur.Those are namely (1) Main Guest House, (2) International Guest House, (3) HRDC Guest House. The Main Guest House has 22 well-furnished single beded rooms and 10 double beded Rooms. In our International Guest House each room is equipped with modern facilities like, WiFi, colour TV etc. Hot water is available 24X7. In addition to this, CCTV servilence is covered whole area. The University Guest House is under the direct administrative control of the Estate Officer.

There is a single storied structure near the NBU UGC-HRDC building where the students and staff of the university can buy food at a effortable rate. It is run by an organization that functions during the working hours of the university. The authority provides furniture, refrigerator, gas, purified water & electric supply to the organization. The seating capacity of the canteen is 30. A variety of snacks including meals during lunch hours is available for students and staff.

The University believes in all round growth of the students and as a consequence the students participate in different sports and games activities of the University. A sports complex, ‘KHELA GHAR” is dedicated for the use of students with multi-gym badminton courts and table tennis boards, Two big playgrounds are also there are available for outdoor sports. A phase wise installation of Campus Wi-Fi system is in progress to the startegically identified locations. The plan is to make the internet accessible to located at any corner of the campus.

As of now, the Wi-Fi facility is available at all hostels, Library, guest houses, administrative buildings and some of academic department and centre. All stakeholders including Students, Scholars, Faculties, Officers and Non-teaching staffs can avail the facility using their individual authentication token.

Health Centre of the University provides OPD services from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. and emergency on-call services for the rest of the day.The services provided are doctor consultation (General physician,eye,pediatrics,gynae, pathology and dentist) medicines, emergency management with referral services to higher centre if needed and laboratory services.

The Medical Officer acts as liaison between the State Health service and the University to provide preventive and promotive health services to the students and staff and carry on the National Health Programmes inside the campus as applicable. A sophisticated, intelligent IP Based CCTV Surveillance system has been installed at every geographical corner of the University campus. The system is based on Client-Server architecture. A total No of 200+ cameras are in operation 24x7 and live feeds are being monitored from a central control facility under the supervision of University Watch and Ward department.

Cameras are located at strategic points on the campus, principally at the entrance and exit point of sites and buildings. No camera are hidden from view and all are prevented from focusing on the frontages or rear areas of private accommodation. No camera are covering any toilet, wash rooms, anti-chambers, and change room which may hinder privacy to any citizen getting access to any private or confidential information.

The University hostel system includes 10 Hostels for Boys and Girls. These are spacious, well furnished hostels. Apart from hygienic foods, hostels provides recreational facilities includes TVs, indoor games, etc. Each hostel has its live-in wardens, a hostel monitoring committee who administers the hostels. In view of the limited Hostel Accommodation, the candidates should note that the grant of admission to a programme of study in the University would not ensure allotment of Hostel Accommodation and that the Accommodation will be offered to the eligible applicants subject to availability.

Nanotechnology has developed the electron microscope, which satisfies the demand for higher resolution and is the source of getting more information about the sample in the nanoscale range. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) is a non-destructive, powerful magnification tool that reveals detailed information about the morphology and composition of the fabricated materials. The SEM is now an indispensable tool in scientific research. Jeol SEM (JSM IT100) was purchased and installed in December 2017 with financial assistance from RUSA. Currently, USIC is successfully providing the facility of analysing and imaging samples through SEM to various departments in the university, affiliated colleges, other universities and colleges, and also to the industrial community of this region.

The Liquid Nitrogen Plants are designed to produce liquid nitrogen (LN2) directly from the air using cryogenic technology with a purity ranging from 99.9% to 99.999%. A centralised Liquid Nitrogen Plant (Liquid Nitrogen Plant of Stirling Cryogenics, DH Industries BV, Netherlands) was installed at USIC in 2016. The LN2 is constantly required to run the NMR machine (Bruker 300MHz) installed at the Chemistry Department of our university, and different users associated with the research work in different university research laboratories. Currently, USIC is in a position to supply the adequate liquid nitrogen required to meet the needs of various departments.
